STAGNATION IS OUT!  INTRAPRENEURING IS IN!

If an INTRApreneur is an entrepreneur inside your company, then creative lateral thinking is the oxygen that they breathe.

How do you become an INTRApreneur?

You simply keep asking “Is there a better way to do this?” and “What is the next thing that I could be doing?”

A vibrant intrapreneuring corporate culture displays some of the following characteristics:

Intrapreneurs make a habit of questioning the status quo and challenging assumptions.  Children do it constantly. When asked what advice he would like to give science students, Albert Einstein is said to have replied, “I would ask them to spend an hour a day rejecting the ideas of others, and thinking things out for themselves.”

Intrapreneurs are never satisfied, and they are always looking for a better way.  They know that the pursuit of mediocrity is always successful, but that the pursuit of excellence is never final.  It took Thomas Edison over six thousand tries before he came up with a workable filament for the incandescent lamp.  But that final success offset the cost of all those failures.

A journalist once asked Thomas Watson Snr, the founder of IBM, what was the secret for getting ahead in his company.  He replied, “Make as many mistakes as possible!  The person who makes mistakes, is the person who is taking risks.  Make the mistake once, and it’s a learning experience.  Make the same mistake twice, and you’re fired!”
